God at Work: For You

God at Work

When you drive down the highway, periodically you will see a sign that says, “Men at Work.” As you continue driving, you expect to see a crew working along the road. What if you saw a sign that said, “God at Work,” what would you expect to see? This month I will be sharing with you a series of devotions entitled, “God at Work.”

God at Work – For You

God has been at work in our world from the very beginning of time. It is important for you to see how He has been at work and what He has done for you.  The apostle Paul shares this truth in Romans, “For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made.” (NLT)

The focus of attention is on God, and what He has done for you. All the way through the Scripture God has taken the initiative. He decided to create the heavens and the earth, to put the sun, moon, and stars in place. He decided to put the animals and plant life on earth, fish in the seas, and the birds to fly through the air. All of these things are beautifully and wonderfully made. What was God’s purpose in all this “work?” It was for you to enjoy. “Then God said, ‘Let us make people in Our image, to be like Ourselves, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created people in His own image; God patterned them after Himself male and female He created them.’” (Genesis 1:26-27)

Dr Rick Warren in his book, The Purpose Driven Life, quotes Dr Michael Denton, (Professor of molecular genetics at the University of Otago, New Zeland) “All the evidence available in the biological sciences supports the core proposition . . . that the cosmos is a specially designed whole with life and mankind as its fundamental goal and purpose . . .”

Your life and time on earth and all the resources available to you are all gifts from God. He is the owner of everything and everyone. “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to Him.” (Psalm 24:1) All that the Lord has given you “dominion” over He expects you to take good care of and to enjoy. God has made all of creation for you to enjoy. God at work – for you, not only to provide the material things of life you need but also, at work – for you, providing for your spiritual need also.

Dr Charles Stanley in his Life Principles Bible states, “One of our greatest needs is to know that we are loved. Each one of us has to feel certain, deep down in our hearts, that someone loves us and has our best interests at heart. That is how God designed us. He wants us to know that He loves everyone of us with a passionate intensity too deep for words.”

Because of His love, expressed throughout the entire Bible, He chose to do for you what you could not do for yourself, reconcile you to Himself. The apostle Paul relates the fall and restoration of mankind with Holy God. “Because one person (Adam) disobeyed God, many became sinners. But, because one other person (Christ Jesus) obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19)

Warren Wiersbe in his commentary, Be Rich states, “In His mercy God does not give you what you do deserve; and in His grace God gives you what you do not deserve. Sin worked against you and God worked for you.” By the sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the cross, and God’s raising Him from the dead, God at work - for you, was accomplished.
