What is a Chaplain?

The role of the Chaplain is actually not a new concept. Chaplains have actually been around since the 4th Century. Most people are familiar with Military and Hospital Chaplains, but the Corporate Chaplain has redefined the role from beyond just funerals, weddings, and hospital visits (which we still do), to being an integral part of company culture, coaching team members who desire to grow, and it is redefining how companies are able to care for its people.

There are some specific behaviors and character qualities that we have looked for as we have built our Simmons Chaplain Team. Here is what you can expect from your Chaplain when you reach out:

  • Confidential & Trustworthy

  • Approachable, Friendly & Involved

  • Compassionate & Caring

  • Serves Others Unconditionally

  • Offers Hope

  • Shows Respect

  • Exceptional Communicators

Oftentimes, we serve as an emotional or spiritual EMT. We are often the first responder to crisis. There are times when we are able to assess and provide the needed care, while other times we will help refer to whatever professional will be the most help.
