A Baby Changes Everything
There is a contemporary Christian Christmas song recorded by Faith Hill entitled “A Baby Changes Everything.” It goes like this:
When I hear that song my memory takes me back to 1982 when our first child was born. That changed a lot of things for us…how we shopped, restaurants we could go to, cash flow, especially the amount of sleep we got. A baby changed everything.
Now our “baby” has three babies of her own, the youngest is two years old. She and our son-in-law also found that a baby changes everything.
The baby Jesus didn’t stay a baby for long. Did Joseph and Mary ever need to discipline their oldest? Somehow I can’t imagine “spanking” Jesus…can’t imagine Jesus ever needing any “correction.” I have thought about what it might have been like to grow up as the younger sibling to God in the flesh. Did Joseph or Mary ever ask his brothers, “Why can’t you be more like Jesus?” Wow, glad my older siblings didn’t set the bar that high for me.
What was His personality like? Was he cool, calm, and collected? Did he know everything, at least what was in the hearts of men, when he was a teen? Did he go through the “terrible twos” or maybe the terrible tweens or terrible teens? Did he have a curfew or any girlfriends? Did Joseph have “the talk” with Him?
If you started reading this with some of the same questions, I’m sorry that you haven’t found the answers here. I’m still asking.
There are some things that I do know about Jesus, this one comes from the gospel according to Matthew.
May God bless you richly as you continue your search for the things you need to know about Jesus.
