What did you do before coming to Simmons?
I worked for World Team in their Global Member Care department helping college kids and their parents as they transitioned to another country or back to America.
When and why did you become a Chaplain?
I became a Chaplain on August 29, 2022! About a year prior, I was introduced to the opportunity of working as a Chaplain in caring for those at Simmons. At that time, I didn’t feel like it was the right time, but I definitely felt at peace in joining the team in 2022. I love walking alongside others and helping them in whatever way I can. I have held on to a verse that God made clear to me during a very difficult time in my life as He comforted me and my family. This verse is 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” I want to be used by God in comforting others during difficult times. I love how Simmons cares for their people and I’m so excited to be part of that. I also love the team! What a privilege it is to work with such a great team and company!
Where did you go to school?
I went to High School in Quito, Ecuador. I then went to college in a small school in England called Capernwray Hall. I finished my college education at Calvary University studying Counseling. I also had the opportunity of getting a Masters in Madrid, Spain in International Education.
Where have you lived?
I have been given the opportunity to live in many countries. I grew up in Colombia and Ecuador. My husband Peter and I then lived in England, Ecuador, Uruguay, Spain, and in Kansas City, MO.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love traveling, spending time with my family, and decorating.
What are some of your favorite quotes?
“It is easier to prevent bad habits than to break them.”-Benjamin Franklin
“Whoever is happy will make others happy too.” -Anne Frank
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” -Mother Teresa
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” -Helen Keller
If you could do anything for one day and money is not an issue, what would you do?
That’s a hard question as there are many things I’d love to do, but traveling to some Mediterranean island and spending it with close family would be so special!
Who have been the most influential people in your life?
My parents, and a neighbor we had in Kansas City who helped me when I was a young mom caring for my kids. She was such a great example to me.
