Life Has Purpose
Some people seem to drift through life headed in no specific direction. They are clearly without defined objectives, and it is not surprising that many adopt a lifestyle that lacks meaning and purpose. They just drift through life like a tumble weed being blown by the wind, first one direction then another.
It is easy to get stuck in a job you don’t like. You work harder and harder to simply “make a living.” Being stuck working harder and harder with no real purpose than simply “existing” is neither enjoyable nor fulfilling. Life becomes merely, existing without purpose.
You may need to ask yourself the question, “What kind of life do I really want.” Until that question is confronted, you may stay stuck in a life of undesirable circumstances and recurring frustrations. God never intended life like that for you or anyone. The apostle Paul relates such a message when he wrote to encourage the young believer Timothy. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. Therefore, do not be ashamed of our Lord . . . Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” God has a purpose for your life. Life takes on meaning and purpose because of one’s relationship to God in Christ Jesus.
In his book, Mind Click, Dr Jeremy Crosby has a chapter entitled, “What You Really Really Want.” He suggests one should, “Consider what it looks like when a person is fully engaged in living life with love, passion, and enjoyment.” Some of his suggestions are:
- “Accept yourself for the person you are.”
- “Base your identity on the character of who you are and not on what you do.”
- “Accept ongoing personal growth as an enjoyable essential of the experience and journey of life.”
- “Make choice and intention the primary factors that direct your life.”
- “Regularly do things that invest in your goals and chosen life direction.”
- “Understand where you are, where you have been, and where you want to be.”
Remember, “. . . The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And, the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:5-6)
