Wisdom – Temporary Gain vs. Eternal Significance
“I don't fear failure. I fear succeeding at something that doesn't matter.” ~ Dr. Dan Erickson
A few years back, I was in the car on the way to visit Chaplain Wil, who had been at a Kansas City hospital following his surgery. We weren't sure if he was going to make it through the recovery and I honestly wasn't if this was the last time I'd ever see him. On my drive, I started thinking about my own life - and my own death. I can't explain how it happened, or how I didn't wreck the car writing it down, but I wrote a song going 70 mph that morning and I just thought I'd share that with you today.
Eternal Significance
by Nick Braschler
[Chorus]
When this life is over
I hope it meant more
Than just a dash between two dates on my gravestone
I’m seeking the life that God intended for me
I don’t want the pleasures, Porsches, fame and fortunes anymore
I want to live a life of eternal significance.
[Verse 1]
Your life must really have value to God
Cause He sent His only Son
To live and die – And rise again
Now death is conquered
We no longer fear it
By His Blood our eternity is secure
[Chorus]
When this life is over
I hope it meant more
Than just a dash between two dates on my gravestone
I’m seeking the life that God intended for me
I don’t want the pleasures, Porsches, fame and fortunes anymore
I want to live a life of eternal significance.
[Verse 2]
Christ gives my life meaning
I put my faith in Him
I’m setting my sights on the Kingdom of God
My focus is clear now
My purpose is pure
God use my life to glorify your Name.
[Bridge]
Let’s turn down the music
Take some time to re-align
May the heart of the Father be reflected my your life.
Just turn off the music
Take some time to re-align
May the heart of the Father be reflected in your life.
[Chorus]
When your life is over
Will it have meant more
Than just a dash between two dates on your gravestone
Are you content with what this world has to offer?
Or will you seek the life God intended you to live?
Do you want to live a life that has eternal significance?
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." ~ Colossians 1:9-14 (NIV)
