BALANCE IS PROACTIVE | DONNIE SMITH

Everyone has obligations, and, most likely, those obligations clamor for more attention than we have time to give. Donnie Smith, the President and CEO of Tyson Foods, believes it’s impossible to set a static priority list that balances out those obligations for the rest of life. Instead, he offers the idea of a dynamic rebalancing of work and life that constantly judges priorities throughout the week. Balance is active, not passive.

Freebird | Rick Shurtz

According to The Conference Board Job Satisfaction Survey, only 48% of US workers are satisfied with their jobs. This is down from 61% in 1987. This trend is affirmed by Gallup who reports that nearly 70% of American workers are "not engaged or actively not engaged" in their work. Add to this that the American Institute of Stress reports that job stress is "far and away the major source of stress for American adults," and that it has "escalated progressively over the past few decades." Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
— Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV)

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." | Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." | 1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s." | Psalms 103:1-5 (NIV)

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." | Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” | Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." | Romans 12:2 (NIV)

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." | James 1:2-4 (NIV)

"Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places." | Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NIV)

“In the dictionary, next to the word stress, there is a picture of a midsize mutant stuck inside a dog crate, wondering if her destiny is to be killed or to save the world. Okay, not really. But there should be.” | James Patterson
