What did you do before coming to Simmons?

I have had the privilege to serve as the pastor at the Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia since 2012, and have loved every minute of it!  And if you asked me why I have enjoyed it so much, I would tell you that it is the people that I work with and minister to on a regular basis.  It really is a joy of life to get to know so many individuals and their families and to grow with them!

When and why did you become a Chaplain?

In the Fall of 2016, I was approached with opportunity of serving as a chaplain.  At first, I was not sure if it was something that was really for me, but I am glad that I did not let my apprehension keep me from going for it.  I know that God has led me to this place and I have found a great deal of purpose as I make so many new friends and opportunities to reach out to help others.

Where did you go to school?

I am a 1999 graduate of Pensacola Christian College in sunny Pensacola, Florida.  I majored in Secondary Education with a minor in Bible.

Where have you lived?

I was born and raised in the inner-city of Philadelphia - it really was a great place to grow up!  I spent 4 years in Pensacola for college and a year in Valley Forge, PA before we moved back to Philly and started a family.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Free time?  What is that?  Ok, seriously.  My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family.  My wife (Jean) and 2 children (Joey and Emilie) are really my favorite people!  Being a husband and father keeps me busy, but when we do find some time, we enjoying taking day trips and getting out together.

What are some of your favorite quotes?

"My Presence shall go with thee, and I will Give thee rest."  Exodus 33:14

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."  Theodore Roosevelt

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."  Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"I have found a desire within myself that no experience in this world can satisfy; the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."  C.S. Lewis

"Fly, Eagles, Fly!" - Philadelphia Eagles Fight Song

If you could do anything for one day and money is not an issue, what would you do?

I would fly to St. Thomas and relax on Sapphire Beach!

Who have been the most influential people in your life?

My parents have been the biggest influence on me.  It is because of their love, sacrifice, and example that I am the man I you can blame them!  Haha...ok, seriously.  I love them and truly appreciate all they have given and taught me.

My wife has taught me so much.  It may sound corny, but she really does complete me.  She sees things differently than I do, and I have come to appreciate and rely on her perspective.

I have to tell you that my children are teaching me, too.  Mainly, they have taught me that I'm not as cool as I think I used to be!  They keep me humble, for sure.

But really, this list can keep going on!  I have had so many friends and mentors that have come along through the years and help me get to be who I am.  I am very thankful for all of them!
